Geometry

Geometry is a required class for most juniors.  It is an EOI class, which means at the end of the school year we will have an End Of Intruction test that is state mandated.  If the student does not pass on the first attempt, it is possible the student will be asked to attend summer school for remmediation, and will retake the EOI at the end of summer school.

The following are the 3 main standards that are state required.

Standard 1:  Logical Reasoning

Includes using inductive and deductive reasoning to make and test conjectures, finding the converse, inverse, and contrapositive of "if-then" statements.

Standard 2:  Properties of 2-Dimensional Figures

Includes angle relationships formed by parallel lines and transversals, determine relationship between pairs of angles (adjacent, complementary, vertical, etc.) to solve problems, identify and analyse polygons, properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles including congruence and similarity.

Standard 3:  Triangles and Trigonometric Ratios

Includes Pythagorean Theorem and its converse, special right triangle relationships, using sine, cosine, and tangent to solve real-world problems.

Standard 4:  Properties of 3-Dimensional Figures

Includes properties of polyhedra and other solids, use of similarity to solve problems, and nets

Standard 5:  Coordiate Geometry

Includes distance formula, midpoint formula, slopes of parallel, perpendicular, horizontal, and vertical lines, determining a shape given a set of points, and transformations.
